Harley-Davidson Storage Bubble
The first time I saw a photograph of the Harley-Davidson Bubble in
action, I thought I was looking at a fancy little toy motorcycle in a
plastic display case destined for a mantel somewhere. Upon closer
inspection I realized that it was no toy at all, but a full-size Harley
with all the trimmings in a protective, as the name states, bubble.
This is for the biker who really, really loves their ride. The Bubble
will accommodate any make or model motorcycle, although I doubt a trike
would fit. You won't even have to take off your windshield or bags.
Using a standard 110-volt outlet, the Bubble creates a constant flow of fresh, filtered air across your bike. It won't even know that it's parked. This process creates an atmosphere around your machine that is free of condensation and dust, thus drastically reducing the chance of corrosion.
Since you love your machine so well as to get it such a gift, you probably want to show it off. Gone are the days of an amorphous gray blob at the back of your garage that might be a stored motorcycle, and here are the days of full view storage. Remember how I said this looked like a toy for display? Well, in a way, it is. The Bubble will act as a protective display case for your machine during the off season. When riding days are here again, your bike will be dry, clean, and ready for the road.

Daily Motorcycle News • Harley-Davidson Museum Unveils Tsunami Motorcycle
The 2004 Harley-Davidson FXSTB Softail Night Train, recovered off the
coast of British Columbia by Peter Mark, is being displayed at
Yokoyama's request. He asked to have the motorcycle preserved in its
current condition and displayed at the Harley-Davidson Museum as a
memorial to those whose lives were lost or forever changed by the 2011
tsunami in Japan.

"We're truly humbled to display Mr. Yokoyama's motorcycle," said Bill Davidson, Vice President of the Harley-Davidson Museum. "This motorcycle has an amazing story to tell, and we are honored to be able to share it."
The remarkable story of the motorcycle's survival and recovery made international headlines after Mark found it washed ashore on a remote beach on British Columbia's Graham Island at low tide. He discovered the motorcycle, still bearing its Japanese license plate, in a container where the bike was being stored by Yokoyama.
Working with news agencies and representatives from Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada and Harley-Davidson Japan, contact was made with Yokoyama, who lost his home and currently lives in temporary housing in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Still struggling to rebuild his life in the aftermath of the disaster, Yokoyama declined Harley-Davidson's offer to return the bike to him, although he was grateful for the offer and touched by the outpouring of support from Harley riders around the world.

Best Ducati Motorcycle 1198
Best Ducati Motorcycle 1198 Red
Ducati 916 Biposto
His insatiable thirst for life is only surpassed by his monthly fuel
bill. Whether rocketing on land, flying through the air, or jumping the
seas, our Associate Editor does it all and has the scars to prove it.
Italian motorcycle manufacturer, 2013 Ducati Monster 796 First Ride
has released its first new model of the season: the 2011 Ducati
Monster 796. This mid-range street bike fills the void between the
entry-level personality of the Monster 696 and the advanced road
performance of the Monster 1100. With a base price of $9995, the 796 is
a sensible choice for motorcyclists looking for an amusing and
easy-to-maneuver motorbike that’s ideal for jaunting in-or-around the
city.
The
beauty of the Monster line is that the basic architecture of the
bikes, including the chassis, air/oil-cooled V-Twin engine
configuration, and sleek minimalist body panels are shared between
models. However a closer look reveals there are some key differences
between this one and its siblings.
The primary difference that
distinguishes the mid-level Monster is its use of a 4-valve, 803cc
V-Twin, identical to the unit employed in the Hypermotard 796 street
bike. Compared to the other Monsters this engine is in a higher state
of tune, employing an 11.1:1 compression ratio (versus the Monster
696/1100’s 10.7:1 ratio) courtesy of pistons with a different crown
shape. Fuel is received from a 3.8-gallon fuel tank through 45mm
throttle bodies, each equipped with a single fuel-injector. Exhaust is
piped through a 2-1-2 stainless-steel configuration that terminates
with twin shorty-style under-tail mufflers. Each header pipe is fitted
with an oxygen sensor which ensures optimum engine running conditions.
A
six-speed transmission and a hydraulically-operated APTC clutch
control the engine’s power through a chain drive. Furthermore the
clutch is bathed within the engine’s oil supply enhancing reliability
and reducing noise as compared to the racing-style ’dry’ clutches used
on the 1198 Superbike. The clutch also incorporates a slipper/back
torque limiting functionality which helps prevent the rear wheel
instability during downshifts at high rpm.
The engine is cradled
in a lipstick-red steel trellis frame. It attaches to a reworked
subframe which is compatible with passenger grab handles that are
available as a Ducati accessory ($129). The 796 also gets the same
well-crafted single-sided aluminum swingarm as used on the more
expensive 1100 model.
Suspension is comprised of a Showa
inverted fork and an Sachs hydraulic shock that is mounted directly
between the frame and swingarm without a linkage. Although the fork
doesn’t offer any damping adjustment, the shock provides spring preload
and rebound tuning abilities.
The 796 rolls on a pair of
beautiful black 5-spoke cast-aluminum wheels featuring a small red pin
stripe around the edge to draw attention to them when in motion.
Attached to the front wheel is a pair of 320mm brake discs clamped by a
radial-mount four-piston Brembo calipers. Rear brake consists of a
solo 245mm disc pinched by a twin-piston caliper. Both brake systems
are powered hydraulically through stainless-steel lines. Anti-lock
brakes are also available as an option on the new machine however
pricing is TBD. Lastly, the wheels are shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso
tires in sizes 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear. Hop into the seat
and the first thing you’ll notice is how similar it feels to the
smaller 696 model. The bike feels short and skinny, which makes it easy
to manhandle on the road. The seat height measures 31.5 in. above the
ground which is 0.4 in. lower than the 1100, and 1.2 in. taller than
the 696. Grabbing a hold of the aluminum handlebar isn’t as much of a
stretch compared to other Monsters courtesy of the bar risers that
elevate the bar position by nearly an inch.
Thumb
the starter button and the new Ducati fires to life with deep,
thumping exhaust note. Surprisingly, the 796 doesn’t get the same sleek
slimline switch gear as used on some of the Italian manufacturer’s
other new street bikes, including the Streetfighter. Instrumentation is
comprised of a small, yet functional, white-backlit LCD display that
is both easy to read and quickly operated via the switchgear on the
left handlebar.Clutch lever pull is light and offers 4-way lever
position adjustment to accommodate different sized hands. The clutch
also delivers an ample level of feel for riders who might not have a
lot of experience launching a motorcycle. The lower first gear ratio
only adds to its user-friendly demeanor when pulling away from a stop.
Switching between the remaining five gears was smooth and trouble-free,
though we wish the gearbox felt tighter.
Twist the throttle and
this Monster delivers a much more robust spread of power compared to
the smaller 696. Sure, it won’t win any drag races against a modern
liquid-cooled sportbike, yet it will still surprise you with just how
much torque it cranks out at low-to-mid rpm. The engine has plenty of
juice to loft the front wheel in first gear and is capable of bursts of
speed whenever it’s revved out to redline. While the engine delivers a
bit of vibration, it never becomes annoying, even at freeway speeds.
In
terms of handling the 796 feels every bit as nimble as its smaller
sibling. Direction changes can be accomplished with a light touch of the
handlebar. The center of gravity also feels low which aids in steering
and railing around corners. Though suspension spring rates are
calibrated for lighter riders, when pushed this Monster still delivers
enough grin-inducing performance for even an experienced, sport-oriented
pilot. The bike we rode came equipped with the optional ABS system. By
default the system is always on, but you can disable it easily by
navigating through the menu system on the instrument display. Braking
power and feel is adequate and we appreciated the added confidence
provided by the ABS. But we were more impressed by the fact that you can
quickly turn it off with a few clicks of a button if you‘re feeling
mischievous. We also appreciated that the position of the brake lever
could be moved based on rider preference.

Kawasaski USA To Launch Ninja 300R & 400R
The good times are sure to roll as Kawasaki plans to launch two more Ninja branded bikes. The Japanese automaker will offer the Kawasaki Ninja 300R and Ninja 400R in the US markets next year. These two performance motorcycles will sit above the Ninja 250R (pictured above). Currently there is no good 400cc bike in the market and rumors were doing the rounds of a Honda CBR400R and a Yamaha R4. However with Kawasaki confirming a 400cc bike, its just a matter of time before its Japanese rivals unveil their 400cc motorcycles.
Both the bikes have a parallel twin engine. The Kawasaki Ninja 300R produces a peak power output of 39 BHP at 11,000 RPM from its 399cc engine. This makes the 300R a very sporty machine, just like the Ninja 250R. The Kawasaki Ninja 400R on the hand is already on sale in Canada. The 399cc engine produces 44 PS of peak power 9500 RPM and 37 Nm of peak torque at 7500 RPM. The Ninja 400R has a kerb weight of 203 kgs and a tank capacity of 15.5-litres. It looks very similar to the Ninja 650R.
In the U.S. Kawasaki sells the Ninja 250R without fuel injection. Elsewhere the Ninja 250R is offered with fuel injection. The carbureted Ninja 250R could be replaced by the Ninja 300R but nothing is confirmed as of yet. Clearly Kawasaki is on a product assault but sadly the company doesn’t find the Indian market lucrative enough due to low volumes.
While Kawasaki will put the Ninja 300R and Ninja 400R on sale in U.S markets in early-2013, an Indian launch seems unlikely. Bajaj-KTM plan to launch a KTM branded 350-375cc bike next year and it is uncertain as to where the Ninja 300R and 400R would fit in. The Ninja 250R is currently priced at around Rs. 3.2 lakhs, while the Ninja 650 costs around Rs. 5.5 lakhs (on-road). The 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R would be more expensive, leaving little space for the 300R and 400R (pictured below) to fit in.

Kawasaki Makes Significant Changes To 2013 Ninja 250R
Kawasaki has finally given the Ninja 250R some significant changes as the quarter-litre machine is for the very first time facing some real competition. The Kawasaki Ninja 250R has been the world’s best 250cc motorcycle for more than 20 years and never had any real challenger. However, Honda brought in the CBR250R last year, which has made Kawasaki sit up and take notice. The Kawasaki Ninja 250R does get minor updates (in the form of new colors) every couple of years but for 2013, the Japanese automaker has finally given the bike some very noteworthy upgrades.
The 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R gets design changes all around including a new muffler and tail. The front now houses twin-headlights while the fairing has been redesigned to cool the bike faster and prevent the heat from bothering the rider. The Kawasaki Ninja 250R is now more aerodynamic as well. The Japanese automaker has also gone ahead and made changes to the 250cc, parallel twin engine, giving it new cylinders, piston, crank cases along with a revamped fuel injection system and dual throttle valves. The steel tube frame has been redesigned as well which cuts down vibrations. The company has given the Ninja 250R new suspension system and brakes along with offering ABS as an option.
Another important change to the Kawasaki Ninja 250R is the new instrument cluster. Many have complained about the boring analogue meter found on the old Ninja 250R and the company has finally incorporated an all new console. The new cluster houses a rectangular LCD display along with an analogue tachometer, which is red-lined at 13,000 RPM. There are the usual tell-tale warning lights, which are spread across the complete cluster. The alloy wheels have been re-designed and look very similar to the ones found on the KTM Duke 200 and the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS. The Ninja 250R has been given new dual tone colors too. The quarter-litre machine continues to weigh the same as before, but the ABS version is 2 kgs heavier at 174 kgs. Power figures are yet to be revealed but we expect them to remain the same at 33 BHP.
Bajaj Auto will almost certainly bring the 2013 Ninja 250R to India but when is the real question. Sales of the Ninja 250R have declined massively post the Honda CBR250R’s arrival. Further more, Bajaj is focusing more on brand KTM than Kawasaki which has resulted in the Austrian brand overshadowing the Japanese one in showrooms. The Kawasaki Ninja 250R is currently brought in through the CKD route (kits being imported from Thailand). Bajaj Auto needs to consider local manufacturing, which can lead to the Ninja 250R’s price to drop by a good Rs. 1 lakh. The 2013 Ninja 250R at Rs. 2.25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) is just what is needed to paint the town green. Meanwhile feast your eyes on 67 photos of the 2013 Ninja 250R below.

2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650R Breaks Cover
The 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650R/ER-6F has finally broken cover and wasting no time we head straight to the looks of it. Plenty of things have changed in this bike to give it a more razor sharp feel. The front fascia has been modified a bit and the changes extend to the fuel tank, front fairing, tail section and also the seats. The heart of the bike, the 650cc motor producing 72 bhp with DOHC, 8 valve liquid cooling has been kept the same though the company claims to have tinkered with the bottom and mid range power delivery making it more fun to ride.
A new twin-spar perimeter frame is introduced and the black silver coating makes the bike visually stunning from the sides. The company also states that 650R’s frame also has become stiffer making for sharper handling. The bike claims to return a economy figure of 17.7 kmpl. With a tank capacity of 19 litres, it should make around 300 to 350 kms before a refuel is necessary. The bike also has an Eco mode which lights up in the instrumentation to help you control the fuel consumption. So overall, the motorcycle has been made more fun and yet practical at the same time!!
