We love planes that do much more than just fly, yet keep fuel efficiency and speed up as priority. Lancair’s Evolution is one such monster that has everything we could look up for. The four-seater plane which takes leaf from the company’s first four-seat design, Lancair IV, was out at the Sun ‘n Fun airshow, showing everyone its massive speed capabilities.
Fitted in with Pratt & Whitney PT6-135A turbine motor, that gives 40 gallons per hour on maximum cruise speeds and about 23 gallons per hour at economy settings, this isn’t super fuel-efficient, but then it isn’t all that bad when you can four of you can fly at more than 300 miles in that fuel usage. The Evolution which could cost you about $700,000, is also available in a kit that can be assembled in 1,000 hours. Oh common, how could I miss this, the Evolution cruises at 385 miles per hour, now come up with your plane to beat that.
